June 2009 Archives

Wheel Questions is now on Twitter! I'll tweet daily about the behind-the-scenes project and comment further on the daily pick question.

Why does he like HER?

and not me?

-Beebe

Sometimes people make foolish decisions.

Work on just being happy on your own & build confidence by sorting out the people & problems in your life that are dragging you down.

Confidence is attractive & if he doesn't notice you, someone else will.

Here's someone who needs a big hug. Shame on me for heading straight into advice-giving. I should have stopped a moment for empathy.

I hate everybody!!!

:(

I'm sad

Make today the day you start to fix it!

You know you can't just hate everybody forever.

What's making you sad & can you be clever & brave about turning it around?

Find a friend & brainstorm.

You can do it!

Should I End my relationship of 26 years?

It's too big a question for an emotional assessment alone. WHy aren't you in love? Are you just bored? Are you doing a lot of giving but not receiving back? Have you communicated your willingness to leave? Get a friend & make some pros & cons. And don't leave without a real backup plan.

Here's a heartbreaking card that will seem obvious to a lot of us. But the thing is, from the inside, it's harder to see it. What are you on the inside of that you're trying to see?

I'm going to set up some Wheel Questions lectures. Let me know if you have a community group that might be interested. :)

How long should I wait for the man I love to leave his wife?

You've already waited too long.

The problem with his cheating on his wife isn't falling out of love with her, it's the lying.

If he's willing to lie to her like he still loves her, that's incredibly cruel. And you're playing a part in it. Leave this guy & find someone who's honest or you'll soon discover he's lying to you, too.

Whats the meaning of life?

Every person you meet is an opportunity to change someone's life.

I've just posted some photos to The Backstage Blog, the blog behind the scenes at Wheel Questions. Look at the last 4 entries for about 40 recent photos of setting up the 2009 Wheel.

This is my 2nd attempt to post this card. Hmm.

Will I Find True Love?

Yes, but you have to have the confidence to say "no" to the wrong people to be available for the right ones. And then you need to be brave & active in meeting people to find your true match.

Build confidence by ending this waiting & hoping that the draining relationships & responsibilities in your life will get better. You have to make it better by taking action.

Here's another cute one I couldn't resist. Tomorrow is Make Music Cambridge day in Harvard Square, basically a street performers festival in the area near the Wheel. :)

Why isen't there a island called Monster island!?!!?

Because you haven't discovered it yet!

Where have you been lately that might be full of friendly monsters? Make a sign & be the explorer who first maps it!

We had a great time at the Cambridge River Festival. In the first 24 hours of Wheel Questions, I got over 200 cards. I'll post photos soon.

I knew he wasn't the one.

Will I ever find another?

Deeply sad,

YES!

Just like your heart can mislead you in love, it can mislead you in "I'll never love again"! Work on gaining confidence by pushing away the people & responsibilities that drain you. Figure out what you really need to make you happy & say "no" to the boys who aren't right. Go on dates & experiment & don't settle! Be strong!

This is a card I am feeling myself this week as I go out on a limb making the last purchases and finishing touches on the 2009 Wheel. I hope you'll come visit this Saturday at the Cambridge River Festival, or Sunday at the opening ceremony, or anytime this summer. See http://wheelquestions.org/blog/schedule.html for the schedule.

The job I do is all about helping people in trouble. Friends & family do not respect my work b/c it's all consuming and pays ($) little in return. Should I continue and struggle or move on to another job?

This is too important for a gut decision. Use your head. Start by making a list of what truly (without illusions) makes you happy & what doesn't.

If it's difficult, keep a diary and every day rate from 1-10 how happy you actually are -- not "should be".

So is this job giving you what you need? If so, keep at it. It's your life.

Or get an even better job.

The new Wheel is almost ready to go! Come visit Saturday or Sunday, check the website for all the details on the schedule! :)

How will I meet the perfect guy?

Make a list of all the relationships & responsibilities in your life and what's genuinely making you happy & what's draining you. Use your head instead of your heart.

Back away from the negative & you will gain confidence.

That's attractive & gives you the strength to say "no" to the wrong guys & the self-knowledge to know what's really right for you, what you need to be happy. Go at it and have at least one date a week!

When do I make choices about life and family, instead of choices about work?

How will I know when it's time to make this transition?

It's all based on having an understanding of your own happiness that is grounded. Our emotions are a shortcut for thinking at an animal level, but a gut instinct just isn't good enough for complex questions about life goals.

Get a friend & make a list of pros & cons. Brainstorm & drill down to what's really important & find a way to have work, life, & family happily.

What should I do to stop My classmates teasing me?

*

They'll stop teasing you if they don't think it's making you feel bad. Making you feel bad makes them feel powerful. So don't react to them, or think up a few verbal jabs back. The best way to love yourself & build confidence, so that bad words can't get to you, is to use your head instead of your heart. Try to push away the people & habits that drain your energy!

It's never too late to teach, to inspire, to organize, to create. Here's a card on that.

How do I prepare for the losses that naturally come with aging.

Some people are born deaf or handicapped but live great lives. Don't let a few disabilities disguise all the abilities you do have. Maybe now's the time to take up painting, start a club, & keep feeling engaged.

And do what's smart about health.

I don't know what to do with my life. I try hard to make a decision but nothing comes. I'm stuck here & miserable most of the time. How do I figure it out? And -- should I leave Boston? Break up with my boyfriend?

Find a friend and make a list of what makes you happy, what doesn't, & what you thought made you happy that really doesn't. Make a pros & cons list about Boston & your boyfriend. What do you really need to be happy & what's a delusion? Most people who are stuck are waiting for a flash of insight from the gut. Use your head instead & overrule your heart if it's just not right.

Are you god?

Why do you think we are here?

-Jack in the box

I'm Johnny and I'm just a guy who likes to write answers.

I don't believe that "there's a reason", or some kind of plan, for us being here. Isn't it so much better that we humans get to write our own plan?

The official opening of the Wheel will indeed be this Sunday, June 14, at 12pm in Harvard Square. Thanks to Red Herring Morris of Belmont, Massachusetts, for performing a traditional folk dance. You can also see a preview of the Wheel this Saturday at the Cambridge River Festival. (This would be a good time to tell any journalist friends you have.)

Will I ever find true love???

YES!

The best thing to do is to back away from people or obligations that drain you, which will build your confidence.

That's attractive to others, will help you figure out what you really want to be happy, and gives you the ability to say "no" to someone who's not right for you. Get practice with dating -- aim for one date a week!

Yesterday's answer advocated restraint. Here's one advocating adventure. Both are good.

Should I go to Argentina for New Years or save money and not take time off work?

Will it be an adventure that you'll remember for the rest of your life?

Try to say yes to adventures & opportunities.
