October 2009 Archives

This one matches my mood today. This Sunday, October 25, I'm managing a giant carnival, costume charity walk, and carnival with $19,000 in prizes and giveaways for volunteers. Please check it out at www.MonsterMarch.org. It is my gift to the world.

Sorry if someone already asked, but why are you doing this? I like your responses + you seem pretty wise, but what's the motive?

I want to show that when something's too good to be true, sometimes it's true.

This really is a gift to the world. With love.

Hi everyone!!

My question is when do you draw the Line between caring for yourself and caring for your partner (love)

Give Me UR ADVICE

:)

The answer is, don't overextend yourself. Give to friends, family, lovers, & co-workers as much as they give back to you.

Otherwise, it's like you're signalling, "You don't have to earn my love. I think I'm not worthy of you." and sure enough, people start taking yuo for granted.

My mom hates my boyfriend but I love him so what do I do?

The hardest thing in life is to know when you're really right & when you're just fooling yourself.

Loving your boyfriend is not the most important issue. Is his life happy & stable so that he can be consistently good to you and never wanting to fight? Or are things bad sometimes & you're hoping that if you try harder, he will change?

Are your mom's fears actually harmless?

Sometimes you can't wait to feel like moving on. Sometimes you just have to do it. Then you'll be glad you did.

When will I be able to move on?

When you take the hole in your life & fill it with friends, hobbies, work, & dating.

Sitting idle & allowing yourself to dwell on it just reinforces it.

Distract yourself!

The question here, while shocking, is better than my answer, which is incomplete. I should have added, so of course only the people who mistreat you come into your life. It's your job to keep them out and don't lose hope. Good people are out there. :)

Are all men

pigs?

What a remarkably ignorant question.

It's all in your choices.

You're so permissive it's like standing on the street with a sign saying "will take anyone".

Confident, healthy people who'll treat you well find that a turnoff.

I think if the French & Germans, the South Africans, and so many other cultures can find peace, there's good hope for everyone.

Will the conflict between Israel and Palestine ever end?

It's fashionable to think the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is special & different. It's not.

Conflicts between neighbors & civil wars have been resolved worldwide. This one will be resolved soon, too.

The Wheel Questions installation in Harvard Square fell over Wednesday in the heavy wind. The construction, which I self-funded, is amateurish and just not stable enough. I immediately came out to fix it.

Then it fell over again Thursday. I have taken it down. See photos on the Wheel Questions Backstage Blog

Thus the Wheel Questions project is over, at least for 2009. Thank you to the people who contributed a total of $800 to the project. Unfortunately I spend about $15,000 and 1500 hours of my time. That is a failure of sorts, though I'm glad to have gotten so much verbal thanks. If you're reading this and would care to donate, please do.

So what's next? I plan to write a book over the winter and explore grants for 2010. I definitely couldn't self-fund the Wheel again, but I would like to find a way to make it work financially. If you have ideas or leads on businesses that might place a corporate sponsorship, please email me at johnny@wheelquestions.org.

I'll keep posting the daily Wheel Questions cards at least until I know what is up for 2010 and whether the project is popular enough to go beyond verbal thanks to something that's healthy for me. :)

Please volunteer to help for this giant festival I am running for the Samaritans. It will be the largest festival in Boston in October! See www.MonsterMarch.org.

The best reward for me from the Wheel: I thikn I've arrived. That's the topic of today's card.

When do you Know that you made it?

Dan, Jordy

You've "arrived" when the decisions you've made lately have led to a happiness that's real, nto delusional.

You can tell the difference by paying attention & thinking rationally about your fears & wants.

Bake cookies & fake confidence. Two ideas that solve a lot of life's problems. Just make sure he's good back to you. :)

There's a new boy in school and he is gorgeous! I don't have the guts to just go up to talk to him. What do I do?

Bake him cookies & pass him a note, a short one.

Two paragraphs, tops! If you aren't confident, fake it.

Or get a friend of a friend to ask him if he likes you & invite you both to a group outing.
