Today my agent looked at my proposal and said, "What you've put together is incredibly compelling... I think you've done a tremendous job here, it's kind of mind-boggling... I've never seen anything like this in a book proposal before." He wasn't talking about just the book idea, but the complete package: videos, the website, a slideshow presentation, market research. I've pulled out all the stops and I think it's starting to work! It makes me feel less stupid to have overextended myself emotionally and financially on Wheel Questions.
Of course, we still need to connect with a publisher!
DO YOU HAVE A HAPPY LIFE?

YES!
I know what's important to worry about & what's not!
Most of it's not!

A couple of months ago I asked people to volunteer to be on video saying "We Want the Book!" to help me build momentum for getting the Wheel Questions book published. The video has really helped me so far. Thank you to everyone! Check out the video.
Sometimes, when you cannot give back -- for example, the person who helped you is anonymous or has so much power and influence that you can't really help -- find someone else to give to, who does need you. To everyone who's helped me, this is for you. :)
how can I possibly repay all that I've been given?
|
Leverage the time & money you do have to give by choosing very worthy and underappreciated people who aren't getting help elsewhere, even if that's someone different from who helped you.
Also, I accept donations!!

I love the quote from Shakespeare on today's answer. I inserted some thoughts of my own in-between the first and last lines.
How do I live a good life?
|
Be true to yourself.
Be the person you want to be.
Be proud of that -- it gives you the strength to stay true.
Be watchful of the results being yourself has on others and on your life. More strength.
Be happy, like only knowing yourself well can achieve.
It follows like the night the day you cannot be false to anyone.

Figuring out what's makes you genuinely happy, instead of sort-of dementedly delusionally happy, is possibly the key to all of life. What makes you happy? :)
What makes you happy?
|
I'm genuinely happy going on a day trip with a friend.
I'm genuinely happy doing big creative projects & events.
I'm genuinely happy when I have balance in my life with love, money, & "me" time.
It's fake "happiness" when I overeat.
Or when I give to someone I love who just isn't giving back.

I try to avoid one-liners. They sound too much like slogans, and are rarely deep. Slogans use poetry to convince you of something rather than making a sound argument. But, this one-liner comes from Shakespeare, and I recommend it to you. :)
Please vote again for Wheel Questions 2010. You can vote once every day for the month of April. All we need is to get into the top ten. It takes less than 30 seconds and the link is Wheel Questions on the Pepsi Refresh Site. Thanks!
What is the most important thing in life to you?

I need your help! As you may know, I self-funded the Wheel Questions project in 2008 and 2009. This year, I've entered to win a grant from the Pepsi corporation. It's a slick marketing idea. They give out grants if you get all your friends to visit their website and vote for you. You can vote once a day for an entire month.
This blog is free, and the Wheel is free too. I'd just like the funds to keep doing it. Please do me a favor and go vote at least once, or put it in your calendar and vote every day as I'll be doing. It takes less than 30 seconds. The link is Wheel Questions on the Pepsi Refresh Site. Thanks!
What is the secret to happiness?

It's letting your head overrule your heart..
Just like you're tempted by unhealthy donuts, it's natural to "feel" a lot of beliefs about love & life & family that reason will tell you are unhealthy too.

This week I need to stop putting off applying for Wheel Questions grants. I've just been silly about how much work it will be. I know just how to do it. Instead of waiting around for inspiration, it's time to get it done and then I'll be glad I did.
Why don't more people DANCE? =)

A life lived in fear is a life half-lived.
Fear always comes from (usually wrong) perceptions of the unknown.
Tell your friends you don't wait for fear to wane.
You make yourself try life & only then are you glad you did.

This week I'm engaging possible corporate sponsors for the Wheel, while looking at grants and researching literary agents for the book. It's going to be a full weekend. But making a plan and doing some research is helping.
Does fear Keep us from our own happyness
xoxo Cami

Yes! That's exactly right!
You can combat fear in two ways.
Mentally, fear is fear of the unknown. So make a plan & do some research.
If you're taking a risk, figure out how to manage that risk. Find the metrics that measure progress.
Physically, take a deep breath & distract yourself from anxious thoughts by calling a friend.

Some days I'm tired and write as rapidly as I can. I know the answers but it just doesn't come out poetically. This day, September 17, I feel I did pretty well. I have my cast off now and am just wearing a splint. Here's one of those cards.
where can I find Happiness? :(
|
You have to move from being a slave to your emotions to realizing that your heart can sometimes blind you to reality.
You may feel you don't know your problems or have no control or "can't" ask for help. But your head knows you can ask a friend over, write notes on paper & figure it out, make a plan, it's scary but just at first -- then you gain energy!!

I broke my wrist! Setting up the Wheel on Saturday night, moving it back from Boston Greenfest to Harvard Square, where it will be until October 24, I fell off a ladder. Thanks to the people at Bertucci's and various strangers for picking up all my tools and storing them.
I should be back to normal in six weeks, and meanwhile I type okay with one hand. Take a peek at pics of the wrist, Boston Greenfest, and the Newport Folk Festival, in the last three entries at The Wheel Questions Backstage Blog
Now would be a really good time for volunteers to write me at johnny@wheelquestions.org and offer to help me keep up.
Will I ever be happy without medication?
|
Will a guy with a broken leg be happy without a crutch?
Sure, but what's wrong with a crutch? If you've found happiness, regardless of how, be happy & enjoy it! There's nothing shameful in taking meds.
It's pretty smart if you need 'em!

Life is Grand!
Why are so many people unhappy?
|
Humans are very adaptable.
They can even get used to, & start taking for granted, clean water, modern medicine, democracy & freedom, first world prosperity, movies & TV, cars, air conditioning, electric lights, the Internet, social freedoms like anti-discrimination & child labor laws, free education, science & technology, and Dance Dance Revolution!!
Make your own list when you're down!

One thing I left out of today's answer is that people who can't be polite in their criticism aren't usually seeing the issue straight. The more abusive the comment, the more likely they're simply wrong.
Should you care about what the world say or Thinks
:) .
|
You need the confidence to know when you're right despite all feedback, and the humility to know when you're wrong and to listen to feedback.
The way to tell is to ask, is what I'm doing working? Do I have a reason to believe it will? Is it a risk I can measure & monitor?
If you're right, ignore the naysayers!

I had a design meeting today with Kyle Sturgeon on the architecture for the new Wheel. We will have it up by June 13 at the Cambridge River Festival, possibly sooner!
WHY DO I KEEP HAVING CRAPPY DREAMS EVEN THOUGH MY LIFE IS PRETTY STABLE?
|
Dreams are like that, unfortunately. I think we remember more of the bad ones because they cause us to wake up.
Maybe you're having plenty of soothing dreams that you don't remember.

Yes, but you have to make it so.

How do I live life with no regrets?
Love you
|
To have no regrets, start by knowing yourself well & what really makes you happy & make smart choices from that.
The more confidence & stability & happiness you have, the less anxiety you will feel. Everyone plays the "What If" game but don't fixate & forgive yourself. Focus on the future.

What is the simlest Joy in life and how can I be happy?
|
Compliment a total stranger.
Learn one magic trick & show it to children.
Bake something for a friend.
Be a good listener & offer help to someone in need.
Give yourself permission to love yourself & cut yourself some slack.
Back away from all drama. Be strong!

What makes you the happiest in Life? When i say "you" I mean people.
<3 Thanks!
|
First, you're happier when you're not being pulled down by people & obligations that don't genuinely make you happy. Second, you're happier when you're needed by others & doing what you love. To figure this all out, get to know yourself without illusions and work towards building confidence by fixing what needs change in your life. You can do it!

Someone who doesn't have a question for me may have a little extra energy to give others instead. Here's a card like that.
Life is Beautiful.
Love is Bliss
Knowledge is Freedom

Hello Johnny,
This is a beautiful garden.
One thing I'm wondering about today is:
Why do I feel this underlying, nagging sort of voice telling me that I should find a partner to find happiness?
The truth is that I'm really quite content in my life...
and I know that happiness is, in the end, to be found inside of myself, not in someone else.
Hmmmm, what do you think?
|
It's completely valid to be content without a partner. I often hear someone say "I don't have time for a relationship" or "I just can't deal with that right now", which is code for their belief that all relationships are draining.
Of course, that's not true, so make sure your happy alone-ness doesn't come from false assumptions. The better you know yourself, the easier choosing is.

Why is it so hard to slow down?
<3
|
You make "time to relax" a low priority and wait for "a rainy day". Put "me time" in your calendar and simplify your life by getting organized and dropping responsibilities that don't make you happy or are just so time consuming it makes you frantic. You can do it, you just need to acknowledge that peace as well as accomplishment is a goal for you.
